Thinking is good. Too much thinking is bad.
Emotion is good. Too much emotion is bad.
Sometimes our thoughts and emotions get away from us – a thousand cues going through your head before you lift. Panic or disappointment can derail a workout that might have been able to be salvaged.
One strategy to deal with this is to get rid of any thinking or emotion, good or bad.
The only thing that must be felt is to lift the barbell.
This quote comes from the Bulgarian weightlifting documentary called “School of Champions”. About a minute in, the interviewer asks the competitor what he was feeling during the competition, and this quote was how he responded.

It’s easy to get caught up in the constant fixing of technique, pushing for faster times, evaluating everything you do.
There is, of course, a place for fixing technique, pushing for faster times, and evaluating what you do.
But sometimes the best strategy is to just….do.
